[FASTCGI] fcgi: getenv always returns NULL and CreateNamedPipe() failed

hello,
in my fastcgi c application getenv always returns NULL for environment vars like REQUEST_URI and REMOTE_ADDR.
I did compile mod_fastcgi and fcgi with Visual C++ 2008 and run into the error "CreateNamedPipe() failed" that got fixed with using the Project properties ...  General -> Character Set -> Not Set.
am i missing something?
