Subject: Apache dirty processes

howdy. using mod_fastcgi.c with Apache 1.1.1 on SunOS 4.1.3_U1 rev B
i'm seeing a variety of processes --- as someone here mentioned
previously, a non-intuitive number of processes given what i'm trying
to accomplish. more worrisome, if i kill the servers, various .fcgi
processes continue to hang around. they continue to hang around even
when i restart the servers.

can someone explain how to cleanly terminate and restart the servers
and have the associated .fcgi processes die and restart gracefully?
