Well, he's not the only one seeing this.  We see it overy once in a while 
and a few other posters here see it often enough that they have watchdogs 
on the error_log file to restart the server when the log comes out.  This 
is the only way to recover everything.  It also isn't just one script.  
Once it happens, EVERY fast-cgi process stops accepting requests.  It seems 
that the FCGI parent gets hosed.  

My guess is that some scripts may trigger this, but its still a problem.  
I've tried figuring out what it could be to no end.

Its a pretty severe bug since you lose everything.
